Sweetness; Not so Sweet
Sweetness; Not so Sweet
Lindsay Huey
Have you ever taken a sip out of a pop? Or a cup of coffee? These drink examples may be artificially flavored with processed or artificial sugar. People don’t realize that there are actually more health risk in consuming artificial sugars than regular sugar.
Sugar is a natural growing crop. Sugar cane is a great example of pure sugar. In the early 1400’s sugar cane was a big cash crop. They would squeeze and squeeze the sugars and juices out, and use it as what they call “healing juice.” Although we have sugars over a matter of time, they are often replaced with atificial sweetners such as Splenda. People dont think much about it but there are serious changes done to the sugars while in the process of shipping.
First and most dangerous process of making artificial sugar is over 3,000 known chemicals are added. This process is what give artificial sugar its white color. The sugar is melted and turned into fine liquid, unlike the crystals when it first arrives. This peals away all the proteins, vitamins, and nutrients, leaving just sugar and chemicals. This is extremely bad for the body. Dentist and doctors often argue the fact of making artificial sugar because this process may cause tooth decay and addiction. As studies shown by scientist artificial sugar melting often creates a poiison causing cancer. This poison goes by the name of Lydenphortose.
As time progresses human ofthen think of more ways to create foods, little do they know it is hurting them more than eating the original organic version. Sugar is in fact 14% of deaths in America. So will you continue or start eating what is healthy for you, overriding apperarance? The decision is yours.

Nice job on the essay. I could clearly see your point of view that you want people to start eating healthier. I did not know that the pure cane sugar is melted into a liquid to form the white sugar that most of us buy in the supermarkets. The only problem with your essay was that you did not provide any links or resources to where you got this information.

Lindsay;
I really enjoyed reading your essay. I thought that it was a little short, but you successfully showed the cons of artificial sugar. However, you didn’t really discuss any benefits or even establish if there were any. I inferred that you disagree with creating artificial sugar, but you didn’t come out and say it if you did. You also failed to provide any resources where I could further educate myself on this topic. I eat a lot of sweets, and this article will certainly make me think twice about how much sugar I eat and where it comes from.

Great essay. I did not known that artificial sugar had so many chemicals in it that can harm us and even give us cancer. Before I read this I did not know much about sugar and I thought artificial sugar was better for us. But know that I learned about it I am going to eat better foods and I will watch for artificial sugars. One last thing that I liked was your ending. Overall you did a good essay.

I liked the beginning of your essay; it was a great way to get people’s attention. I also liked the ending. You clearly did a lot of research and understood the topic well. A little more information on the pros of artificial sugar would have been nice. Other than than that and your lack of resource links, I thought you did a great job and I enjoyed reading it!!

Lindsay,
I think that your article could have been stronger if your would have narrowed your topic. I was a little confused. Your were discussing raw and processed sugar but then you switched to artificial sweeteners.
Where are your supporting resources?
